Hello to the lovely Cat D community, I’m Jo from Love Paper Crane sharing some stationery trends for 2017 for you today. Firstly a huge thank you to the beautiful Cat for asking me to share my thoughts with you.
Let’s talk stationery . . .
For some brides stationery may not be the most important element your day, however if you are anything like me and get excited by all things paper, pattern, colour, pencil, sharpies, ribbon then it’s extremely important. The little details on your invitations, and on the day stationery are the perfect way to inject your style and personality into your day and have a little fun, because that’s what life is (should be) all about.
Stationery covers more than you think . . . it’s the first glimpse into your wedding as it’s the first thing your guests will see. They may receive a Save the Date or Invitations by post and then when they arrive on your Wedding Day, they may be greeted by some welcome signage followed by table plans and table details . . . all of which give a glimpse into your style, personality and feeling you want to create on your day as well as the chance to create a keepsake for your guests.
Stationery can be kept very simple and elegant, especially if you are not sure on your overall theme but want to get your wedding date out to guests. There are so many options to choose from and it can be overwhelming. My aim when working with client whether you are looking for your own DIY printable invitations or a bespoke service is to take the overwhelm out of your planning so that you can relax, enjoy the process and remember what it’s all about . . . love, spending the rest of your life with your best friend and creating beautiful memories.
So let’s get onto some stationery trends for 2017. I think there are a lot of trends that were around last year that will continue throughout the year.
“A trend never simply emerges for a single year and then disappears in a puff of smoke. Instead, an aesthetic becomes popular gradually, even mysteriously, over time before fizzling out slowly without much notice at all.” - Madeleine Morley
Calligraphy and hand lettering is something that we’ll continue to see this year. Calligraphy can cover a variety of trends in itself, it can be simple and elegant or fun and full of colour and personality. It always adds something special to stationery.
Pantone's colour of the year for 2017 is greenery. (Check out their Pinterest board here). I think this will be a trend that follows us through 2017. Not just in weddings but as an overarching theme . . . I felt last year that we were moving towards a more simple and sustainable way of living. Particularly this time of year I feel we all look forward to spring / summer after our long Scottish winter and crave the fresh and light feeling that spring brings with it.
Think nature-inspired, botanical themes, succulents, moss which are perfect for a Scottish wedding. I can visualise spring summer weddings with beautiful bouquet and centerpieces with lots of greenery and foliage and simple cream or blush roses.
This theme can be featured on wedding stationery in either beautiful drawings, watercolour or more of a graphic feature. Both of which are continuing trends in 2017.
Greenery is the Pantone theme so what better way to reflect this in stationary than in beautiful watercolour foliage detail with a touch of calligraphy of course.
Oh how I love a geometric pattern, on paper or in my home. Keeping in with the theme of greenery but a slightly softer sea hue, I created this geometric range for 2017.
Watercolor became more popular towards the latter part of 2016 and will continue throughout this year. These are the wedding invitation I created for the styled shoot organised by Cat D at the end of 2016.
Remember whatever you decide, don’t just follow trends. The little details that make up your wedding should be true reflection of who you are as a couple.
