So the lovely Cat D has asked us to write a little guest blog on wedding dresses and what brides should expect in the coming year. We couldn’t resist the chance to chat about all things wedding related and dresses are most certainly what we know best.
It may seem like a daunting task when you begin to think about your search to find ‘THE ONE’, but don’t let the fears and worries you have overwhelm you. It is important to enjoy your wedding dress shopping experience. At The Bridal Courtyard, we create a relaxing environment for you and your entourage to carefully try on various shapes, styles and colours, resulting in many of you saying that ever famous phrase ‘I’m saying YES to the DRESS’. Nothing pleases us more than seeing happy faces, it really makes it all worth while!
So what, I hear you ask, will be entering the world of wedding dresses in 2017? Well…its exciting, fashionable and ever changing, but here is what you will be most likely to see in the shops.
Lace! Lace will never go out of fashion. It is delicate, soft, classy and elegant and since that wonderful day that Kate Middleton married her prince, the idea of a lace wedding dress rocked the nation. It may seem like all wedding dresses in the world incorporate some sort of lace somewhere and of course not everyone is a lover of lace, but, it’s a fail safe in the world of wedding gowns. If lace isn’t your thing, fear not, as there are many other materials that will tick your boxes.
Crepe is creeping into the world of fashionable wedding gowns and on our recent trip to Barcelona we saw a lot of gowns with beautiful crepe skirts. Now if like me, you carry a few extra pounds, it may not feel like the most flattering or endearing idea, BUT, try these gowns on…you may be surprised. Gowns with a structured top will flatter and provide some support to your body and the skirt will skim past your hips, giving a very soft, floaty look. This material is also perfect for destination weddings as the light and airy texture and design will be wonderful on those hot sandy beaches.
I am a lover of the phrase ‘Less is more’ and I have been delighted to see that satin and similar materials are making a comeback into the world of bridal attire. We have a number of dresses in store that are classy, elegant and timeless, I think due to the minimalist, yet fabulous look. You may be put off in thinking that these dresses seem ‘plain’, but, give them a chance girls…what may look less embellished at the front, may WOW you, and many of these gowns have fabulous detail in other places.
That brings me on nicely to something that many brides are asking for at the moment. On numerous occasions I hear girls asking for ‘some detail on the back’, or ‘I want fabulous back detail’, and you can expect to see this over the next year. I think designers have started to realise that yes, it is important that gowns look wonderful, but that its extra special to have something stand out happening on the backs of wedding gowns, after all, during the ceremony your guests are staring at your back for quite some time. We love sparkly detail, illusion backs and generally anything a little unusual happening on an area that is just as important…photographers can get some great shots of you and your husband to be with the back detail on show…believe me…I have seen some fabulous shots.
Finally, if you are a little bit on the more adventurous side, and perhaps braver than you thought, try on something a little more revealing. Skin coloured tops with lace detail and gowns with a little more on show are a hit. Now I am not talking gypsy wedding style here, but sometimes a little bit of what seems like flesh on show brings out the sexier side in you. If this is a look that you would like for your day, then give it a go…in fact, everyone should give it a go because what looks like a no go on the hanger, may actually surprise you and you will may find that your look is the opposite to what you had first imagined.
